The small town of Obzor (population 2000 citizens) is situated where the “Old Mountain“ chain runs into the sea. This provides an experience of both seaside and mountain. The climate is exceptionally healthy and is recommended for bronchial and asthmatic diseases. The beach at 8 km length is longer than in the Sunny Beach or Golden Sands resorts.

Obzor is situated 60 km south from Varna and 70 km north from Bourgas. It is also only 35 km away from Sunny Beach . Obzor is the main bus-stop of the bus-line Bourgas - Varna . There is regular transport in both directions.

Obzor is one of the oldest Black Sea settlements. The first name of the town was Navlohos. Later, it was known as Heliopolis (town of the sun) an in Roman times it was given the name of Tempium Jovis (Jupiter`s Temple).

Romans also built up a fortress which became a part of the lands of a boyar,named Karvun in the Middle Ages and was famous to the Bulgarian people as Kozyak. Nowadays, in the small park of the modern town, are exposed remains of tiges, capitals and statues of the Roman Jupiter`s temple.

The beach by the town is long and it extends from Cape St. Atanas on the north to the southern Cape Mona Petra. It is followed by a small nestling cove and a beach named Irakli. Once there was a village with the same name there, inhabited by Greek settlers who left it and settled to live with the Bulgarians in Obzor. Cape St. Nickola is several kilometres to the south where the Balkan Mountains touch the Black Sea. Then the central cape of the Stara Planina Mountain called Emine comes and it is considered to be the end of the Balkan Mountains. During the Middle Ages there was a fortress - Emona and the place around was called Paleokastro. Many monks and hermits lived in the rocks in those days and there were lots of small chapels and monasteries.
